This is No Deep Dives. The antidote to conceptual conversations with no practical application. Every newsletter ends with a question for you to unpack what you think, why you think it and who is influencing the way you think.
This is where my opinions go to marinate. I’m not “doing discourse”. There are no in-depth examinations. I’m not trying to be objective, see all sides, or make 42 disclaimers before every thought I vomit up.
I think I only learned how to articulate myself in order to prevent people's eyes from glazing over whenever I spoke. Looking back, my motivation for "critical thinking" was to have more exciting conversations with myself, because the feedback I got when talking to others was that they felt interrogated. Or worse, tricked! Tricked into uncovering who they are, what they believe in and why they believe in it. I thought I was being slick by leading with hypothetical scenarios and moral dilemmas.
Maybe that was my international masterplan and wires got crossed with the delivery. I don’t think people will ever truly become comfortable with how high stakes conversations can feel, the intimacy of sharing opinions, the consequence of disagreeing and the potential for conflict.
I don’t want to pretend I don’t have thoughts because of it, and I don’t want to be an internet martyr. Making myself the sacrificial lamb of hot takes.
So, welcome to No Deep Dives. A newsletter for now. The place where my opinions go to marinate. We don’t need to go “deep” to have a meaningful understanding of the world. I’m inviting you to passively or actively explore what you think, why you think it and who is influencing you think, by reading mine.
You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.
Happy reading,
Love Lil (Flex)
